Phobik – Chicago, IL
Born in Chicago 12-18-1969, grew up in Thessalonikki, Macedonia, Greece for 7 years til 1976 & returned to the US & been here ever since then.
I started djing in 1979 @ the age of 9 yrs old with my cousin John (R.I.P.), in Manhattan, New York City. He was a bartender / busboy, working for Studio 54 discotheque / nightclub. One night @ 54, no one was able to spin & my cousin asked if I could play tunes for a while. They said yes. I was extremely nervous, but once I got started playing tunes, everything went well. Helped out there with the resident DJ’s: Richie Kaczor & Nicky Siano til 1982, when my cousin passed away. From there on, I decided to continue as a DJ & make my cousin proud.
I became part of Sal Amato’s Clubhead.tv site & I am a resident DJ for them as well as I have my own show called Altered State. I spin jungle / drum & bass music these days. I also spin disco, house music (all styles), boogie funk (post disco), early electro / hi-NRG / italo disco / alternative / industrial / freestyle / 80’s & 90’s classics, rock, etc.
My DJ crew is called Altered State Crew. Here’s the link on facebook:

Artist Statement:
“My creations develop from ideas, environments and beings that leave a vivid and tangible impression on me. My work is inspired by in-between spaces of my middle world : the connective flow of dreams and waking, growth and decay, the ebb of energetic ephemerality. I graduated in 2013 with my Bachelor of Fine Arts from UW Madison, and have since been employed at Madison Children’s Museum, creating collaborative art with kids and working behind the scenes on exhibits. My freelance work includes illustrating a young adult fantasy series, collaborative installation design for the Burning Man festival, imaginative character costumes, paintings and murals. In my free time I enjoy boarding, tree climbing, making up stories with my sister, hanging out with my bearded dragon and adventuring.”
