what I have learned in 100 posts

This is officially the 100th post on MadDnB.com. I started this site because I saw that there was a lacking community in madison around drum and bass. I could not have been more wrong. Within the year that I have been here I have seen more love and support from the DnB scene then I could have ever expected. I will grant you that it is still a small scene, but, the passion is there. This is what I have as take-aways:
- Oddsoul… This guy. Jesse is one of the most honest and genuine representatives of the DnB scene. He consistently shows his hard work in both promoting great shows (like Random Movement) and with his own production.
- Embrace different genres. This should be a no-brainer but sometimes you need to be reminded that you are friends first and that no matter what the other person is playing, they are still on your side. I don’t want to imagine a city where we (as Dj’s) actively dis or talk smack against another person’s genre of choice. That is the dumbest thing. I have learned here that people are people and that you can always find the love if you keep your eyes open.
- Connections are better than big venues. Let me preface this with… big venues are awesome, BUT the amount of amazingly talented artists that I have met have WAY overshadowed venues. As a DnB dj Networking is key to success (however you define that). I know so many more random house, trance, progressive, wave artists than I could have imagined. Get out there and embrace someone else’s talent.
- The future of MadDnB? I am planning on putting up a monthly podcast (starting in august). I also will be launching MadDnB sponsored shows at various venues. If you want to contact me please feel free to do so. I am open to any conversation around music, madison, vinyl etc… let’s go!
- The bottom line: This past year has taught me to be patient and to also take the time to focus on what inspires and motivates me. I will continue with all my heart to push Drum and Bass music in Madison. I will continue to keep MadDnB a forefront of DnB news, music in Madison and around the world.
Thank you!
